The term inner child refers to the emotional part of the mind that formed during our early experiences in life.
When certain needs were not fully met in childhood — such as safety, reassurance, validation, or emotional support — the mind often develops protective responses to cope. These responses may have helped at the time, but they can sometimes continue into adulthood in ways that no longer serve us.
